I guess everyone knows the magical children's novel "The Nutcracker", which tells the adventures of little Clara in a world where toys come to life and the titular nutcracker, thanks to Clara's godfather, is transformed into a beautiful prince.
Due to the fact that the leading motif of our this year's collection of Christmas sweets is the 'Nutcracker', we decided to prepare a Saint Nicholas competition, which was decided on December 5 in our social media, and more precisely on our Facebook fanpage.
The prize in the competition was a double invitation to the ballet performance "The Nutcracker" at the Warsaw Chamber Opera and a set of Christmas treats from the limited collection of Mira Bogucka - including an Advent calendar and a gingerbread soldier with the previously mentioned motif.
The award was won by Karol Kościesza, who gave the following moving answer to the competition question about the history of his favourite childhood toy:
" As a child, I looked for Teddy Bear Uszatek on the store shelves, the one that no one asked about, whose one ear had drooped with sadness. I wanted to hug my favorite character of the evening so much. Before Christmas Eve, I found him among other plushies in an inconspicuous toy store. From then on, we were inseparable. After all, the bear, just like me, liked to play fire brigade and train. He talked to the echo, was convinced that he would grow from standing in the rain, and sulked when the puppet explained to him that stars don't fall from the sky, but snowflakes. The simple-minded bear looked at the world through the eyes of a child, and his imagination knew no bounds. He had flaws, but he also had his advantages, which is why he was especially close to me. Now Teddy Bear Uszatek is the confidant of my daughter's secrets. A playmate and companion on every trip, and above all... his best friend. The bear helps to soothe difficult emotions and tame fear, and in the evenings he lets me wrap him in a blanket and "It's blissful to fall asleep next to him."
An additional motivation for the contest participants was the fact that the main prize was delivered by the hero of December 6th himself - Saint Nicholas. You can see the report from the award ceremony for Mr. Karol and his family below. 🎅🎅🎅
